Halloween Gift Ideas

Halloween gifts do not necessarily require a lot of shopping. The best gifts are often home-made, reflecting time and love and the pleasure of making crafts with your children. We've given quite a few Halloween gifts over the past few weeks, but here are a few more for those who still haven't found what they're looking for. Personalize any gift by adding names or initials.

Decorate Your Own Gift Basket

Gift baskets are a popular gift, but you can make yours more memorable by adding your own creative touches. Instead of using a store-bought basket, get a large terra-cotta flower pot. Using black exterior paint, paint jack-o-lantern features on the flower pot. One the pot is dry, line it with dried corn husks and fill it part way with whole dried corn (this can be purchased at large-animal feed stores), for a much more seasonally-appropriate liner than fake grass!

Fill the rest of the pot with whatever your gift of choice is - candy, foodstuffs - the continue decorating. Gather some acorns (this is a great task for the kids!) and bake them at a LOW temperature for approximately twenty minutes. Then, pop off the caps and paint them orange (two coats may be necessary). Once they have dried, paint the point of the acorn brown to mimic a stem, and use a black magic marker to draw on a jack-o-lantern face. Sprinkle your basket of goodies with these "mini pumpkins."

Next, cut some stiff black cardboard into tombstone shapes. Using a white or silver marker, write "RIP" or other Halloween phrases on the grave markers and glue them to popsicle sticks. Stick them into your pot of goodies.

Finally, some good-old store-bought fake spider webbing can be employed to cover the entire ensemble. The final result will be a creative and unique Halloween gift that is both fun to make and fun to give!
